Pedro Pascal found his death in Game of Thrones ‘relaxing’

We all remember where we were when we saw Oberyn Martell’s untimely demise in Game of Thrones. For actor Pedro Pascal however, it was a relaxing day on set.

This news comes after Oberyn’s actor, Pedro Pascal appeared on the famous Hot Ones episode. Whilst chomping down on hot wings (and trying not to cry), the show’s host asked a lot of questions. Conversation swiftly turned to Pascal’s time on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

His role as Oberyn Martell is where the actor rose to fame and now sees him take on big roles in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. However, it is perhaps Oberynn’s gruesome death that is the most memorable.

A relaxing time

The scene features Ser Gregor Clegane (played by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) pin Oberynn to the ground and gouge out his eyes during a fight to the death. For Pascal however, he has fond memories of this day on set.

“I got my head crushed in. It was the best part of the day,” he said. “It was so hot when we were shooting that scene, you know, he’s over me and he puts his thumbs into my eyes and they’ve got tubing through his body into his forearms to his thumbs just like pumping this cool blood. And [he was] so gentle. The gentlest guy ever. I felt no pressure at all, and he was so hyper-aware of it. I couldn’t even feel his weight on me as he basically straddled me.”

After the action was over, Pascal was tasked with laying still on the ground as cameras took various shots of his lifeless body. The makeup team also applied “fleshy bits” onto the actor’s face and during a hot day, this was something of a relief.

“I went into the deepest sleep I’ve been in. I realize now that because I’m not a very good sleeper I need to be laid out with pieces of flesh, gelatinous cool-to-the-touch face meat and pooling blood and maybe I’ll finally get a good f***ing night’s sleep,” Pascal joked.

For Pedro Pascal, the only way is up with his career going from strength to strength. As of now, you can see him weekly on HBO’s The Last of Us. Additionally, you can see him as The Mandalorian in the Disney show with the same name.
