According to a recent report, it is suggested that Far Cry 7 might be shifting more towards online play.
Far Cry 6 was only released this month, but there has already been plenty of talk about the next game in the series. It should also come as no surprise that Ubisoft has most likely already started its development.
To be fair, ever since 2014’s Far Cry 4, the series has had a campaign co-op. Not to mention that Far Cry 5 also had a surprisingly deep creative suite called Arcade mode. So, Ubisoft may have already been setting the online wheels into motion.
However, recent reports suggest that Far Cry 7 will shift focus towards online play. It might be safe to assume that FC7 will also have co-op, but what else? Could we see a return of Team Deathmatch style modes or will it jump on the ever-rolling battle royale wagon?
What could it mean for the series?
The recent rumours of the online-focused Far Cry are courtesy of media outlet Axios. Backing up claims made by reputable journalist Jason Schreier during a podcast back in June, sources of Axios say that Ubisoft: ‘was exploring a more online-oriented approach for a [FC6] sequel.‘
Obviously, at this time we must take all rumours with a pinch of salt, especially when details are so vague. That said, it seems like a natural progression for Far Cry 7 to have more of a focus on online play. However, let’s hope that it’s not at the expense of a single player experience.
In our review of Far Cry 6, we said: ‘If you’ve played a recent Far Cry game, you know exactly what you’re in for with 6. It’s a well-trodden formula of epic scale that has just enough life in it to keep it from being tired.‘
