One of the best indie games from 2020, Coffee Talk, is officially getting a sequel.
Developer Toge Productions has announced that the late-night chill coffee shop game, Coffee Talk, will be getting a sequel in 2022 [via Rock Paper Shotgun].
Titled ‘Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly’, the sequel is set to release sometime next year. The official Steam store description sets the tone for the game, which sounds practically identical to the premise of the first game:
It’s time to revisit your favorite late-night coffee shop and reconnect with your fantasy friends over a warm drink or two. You are a barista, and your customers aren’t always humans, listen to their stories and influence their hearts with a warm cup of coffee or two.
WHAT IS COFFEE TALK?
To be fair, Coffee Talk 2’s style being extremely close to the first game’s vibe isn’t a bad thing at all. If you’ve never played it before, it’s basically a visual novel where you run a late-night coffee shop. Members of different fantasy races, such as humans, succubi, orcs, vampires and werewolves make up a large portion of your customers.
It’s here that you get to talk to the patrons, learn more about their experiences, relationships, goals, wants, needs, and fears. You also sometimes make drinks for them, giving you some freedom and creativity with regards to what you serve. As the game progresses, so does your connection to these people.
Coffee Talk has some stellar writing in the 5-6 hour story, and has an excellent lo-fi vibe that makes it the perfect evening chill game. It was certainly one of my favourite indie experiences of last year!
Right now the game doesn’t have a release date attached to it besides a vague ‘2022’. You can wishlist its Steam page for the time being. Hopefully console versions will be announced at some point in the future.
