Please, gives us Outbreak remasters!

Classic Resident Evil Remasters Rumoured To Be In Development

Capcom has updated assets for three Resident Evil classics, which has sparked rumours of remasters being on the way.

Recently, Capcom launched an online Resident Evil museum that digs deep into the history of the franchise. It features developer insights, some never-seen-before artwork and much more. If you’re a Resident Evil fan, I certainly recommend checking it out.

However, a little more might be going on behind the scenes or at least, that’s what some fans are hoping. In a tweet shared by Alex Aniel (author of Itchy Tasty), he shared the artwork for Resident Evil: Code: Veronica, as well as Resident Evil: Outbreak 1 and 2.

The artwork was updated and upscaled for the benefit of the new Resident Evil online museum. Now, that’s not much else to go by here. After all, it makes sense for Capcom to give art assets the HD treatment to offer the best possible experience for its online museum.

Replying to the tweet, the Twitter account of Project Umbrella RE: Digest shared assets taken from Outbreak. The assets in question feature hyenas and an alligator. Side-by-side images of the assets were shared which shows more than just HD upscaling. Judging by the images, it seems that those particular textures have also been completely reworked.

So, what does this mean?

As a worst-case scenario, it could mean nothing. That being said, while it makes sense for Capcom to upscale assets for the benefit of the Resident Evil online museum, it seems strange that they’d go the extra mile to rework the assets. This of course has got fans speculating once more, that the Resident Evil: Outbreak games could be getting remastered.

At this time, we must take all rumours with a pinch of salt. However, remasters of the Outbreak games have been something fans have been wanting for years. In the US, both gamers were online. Sadly, in Europe, only the second game was playable online.

Unfortunately, even when Resident Evil: Outbreak 2 was released, you would be hard-pressed to find a friend that would play a PS2 online, let alone have decent internet for an enjoyable experience. As a result, not many Resident Evil fans got to enjoy the Outbreak games as intended and they were considered to be ahead of the times.

Do you remember Re:Verse?

Furthermore, fans believe now is the perfect time to relaunch the Outbreak games in the modern era of online gaming. Many would even prefer Capcom to ditch Resident Evil Re:Verse, which came free with Resident Evil Village. However, Re:Verse has been such a mess, it’s still not released despite Village releasing a year ago!

For me personally, I’m one of those that have longed to play the Outbreak games online, without the need of emulating PC software. I’d even take a collection of the best maps from both games in one bundle. I’m also in favour of Capcom scrapping Re:Verse for Outbreak instead.

Only time will tell if Capcom listens to fans, but I certainly hope that they do. Would you like to see the Outbreak games remastered for the modern era? Let us know across our social media channels.
