The New Stardew Valley Board Game Is Everything We’ve Ever Wanted

Video Game to Board Game adaptations are all the range these days. Many digital games have been given the tabletop treatment over the years, from the fiery halls of DOOM to Dark Souls’ punishing dungeons. Now, fans of the wholesome RPG Stardew Valley can also roll some dice and count some counters in a new board game experience by ConcernedApe (via Engadget)

What is the Stardew Valley Board Game About?

Stardew Valley: The Board Game is a co-op tabletop experience. It sets four friends on a mission to transform their grandad’s inherited farm in the hopes that it’ll drive the town’s sketchy corporate presence out. Sounds familiar, right? That’s because this is a faithful recreation of the video game we all know and love.

The project has been in development for two years now. Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has been working alongside board game designer Cole Medeiros. The duo planned to create a product that “captures the essence of Stardew Valley”. This meant translating the game’s unique blend of mechanics and aesthetics. ConcernedApe and Medeiros have managed to achieve this by implementing a card deck to manage seasons and the ability to fish, yield crops and care for farm animals.

In order to successfully drive out the dubious Joja Corp, players will have to coordinate their efforts to restore grandpa’s farm. That being said, this Stardew Valley Board Game experience can be enjoyed in single-player mode. Depending on your current lockdown situation, this could be very useful! The developer also warns that this isn’t a quick fire board game. with each session taking around 45 minutes to complete.

Where Can I Get It??

Unfortunately, the game is currently out of stock, much to our dismay. The game retails for $55 and should be available for purchase again at the official Stardew Valley shop. While you wait, you could always try out Stardew Valley’s new four-player couch co-op mode, which released back in December.
