Skyrim Is Getting A New-Gen Release And No, This Is Not A Meme

Yes, it’s true. This is not a meme. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is getting another re-release. This time for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Announced at QuakeCon and as part of the 10th anniversary of the release of Skyrim, Bethesda’s RPG is getting another release for another generation.

Do you know when something seems that obvious, you think it might not happen? But when it does happen, you are still surprised? Well, this is one of those moments.

It’s actually happening, again

As detailed on the Bethesda Blog, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 11th, 10 years after its original release.

I won’t go counting all the releases that Skyrim has had since it was first released in 2011, because we would be here all day. Plus, at this stage, it is getting near impossible to keep track of it all. I mean, you can even play Skyrim on Amazon’s Alexa!

One of the last significant releases of Skyrim was in 2016 with the Special Edition for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. However, this Special Edition will now receive new-gen treatment.

At this time, we don’t know all the details that the new-gen upgrade will bring. But it’s safe to assume that it will come with the likely improved resolution and performance at the very least.

Owners will get a free new-gen upgrade

The new-gen version of Skyrim: Special Edition will also come with three pieces of Creation Club content: Fishing, Survival Mode, as well as new quests with Saints and Seducers. Plus all previously released expansions that were released for the original version of Skyrim.

Meanwhile, there’ll also be an Anniversary Edition upgrade that also includes “over 500 pieces of unique content from Creation Club,” rejoice!

For those that already own Skyrim: Special Edition on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, they will receive the new-gen upgrade for free. Which is nice. However, the Anniversary Edition that comes with the extra Creation Club content will cost a small fee.

Of course, now that Microsoft owns Bethesda, the new-gen version of Skyrim: Special Edition will also be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost.
