Testing, testing.

PS5 And PS4 Beta Test Available Now With New Features

Starting from today, PlayStation is rolling out a beta test for some new features on PS5 and PS4, including voice commands.

For those who are participating in the PlayStation beta test, they will be able to try out some new party chat options. One new option is open and closed parties. “When you start a party, you can now select either an open party or a closed party,” reads the blog post announcing the beta.

“An open party lets your friends see and join the party without an invite. Friends of party members can also join. A closed party is only for players you invite.” And for when you want to report someone for something they said in voice chat, “there are now visual indicators for you to identify who was speaking.”

The PS5 is getting some new UI features too. You can filter your game collection by genre. And you have the option to choose up to five games and apps on the home screen at all times. There’s also an increase of having up to 14 games and apps appear on your home screen.

Importantly, there’s some new accessibility features. They’ve introduced a variety of screen reader languages, like Arabic and Korean. Which brings it up to a total of 15 screen reader languages. And you can change your headphone settings to be mono audio, so the same sound comes out of both headphones.

PlayStation is also previewing a voice command setting, with a limited release in the US and UK. This sounds similar to Xbox voice commands. You can say things like “Hey, PlayStation!” and then ask your PS5 to find a game or app.
