Ubisoft will be at E3 2023 if there’s a show to attend. At the moment, the future of gaming’s once-biggest convention is in doubt more than ever.
Towards the end of January 2023, it was reported by IGN that neither Sony, Microsoft nor Nintendo will attend E3 this year. Which to be fair, shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The big three have good reason to no-show E3
Sony dropped out of E3 in 2019 and hasn’t returned since. Like Nintendo, Sony prefers to showcase new games and tech via its own digital presentations.
Whereas Microsoft holds its own show at a theatre across the road from E3. As for Nintendo, the reason it’s not attending is due to its light release schedule for 2023. The Japanese giant’s biggest release so far this year is Breath of the Wild sequel, Tears of the Kingdom.
However, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releasing on 12th May, it arrives a good month prior to the E3 showcase. Other than that, Nintendo doesn’t really have a lot going on this year. As far as we know.
Sure, Nintendo will likely release a new Pokemon game or two this year, perhaps we might get a new Mario game, but there’s little reason for the Japanese giant to go all out at E3. It makes perfect sense for Nintendo to save the few big announcements it might have for its digital Direct event.
But hey, at least Ubisoft will be at E3, right?
As reported by VGC, during an earnings call on Thursday, Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot said: “If E3 happens, we will be there and we will have a lot of things to show.” VGC had reached out to Ubisoft for a comment, but the company declined the offer.
