DOOM Eternal is finally getting its free next-gen upgrade this month. Sadly, however, there’s no PlayStation save transfer.
The announcement of the free next-gen upgrade was revealed at the Microsoft and Bethesda Showcase event at E3 this week.
The free upgrade will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We’ll have various options such as playing in native 4K resolution or with ray-tracing enabled. You can even up the resolution to a super smooth 120 frames per second.
If you already own DOOM Eternal, you’ll be good to go from June 29th. However, if you don’t own DOOM Eternal yet, the next-gen version will be available to purchase for your platform of choice. You can currently pick it up on the GameByte Shop from just £15.95.
What modes are included in the next-gen upgrade?
Depending on your system, you’ll have the choice of three modes. The modes include Performance Mode, Balanced Mode, and Ray-tracing mode.
For Xbox Series X, Performance Mode will have a resolution of 1800p at 120 FPS. Balanced Mode is 2160p at 60 FPS. Ray-tracing mode is 1800p at 60 FPS.
Xbox Series S’ Performance Mode is 1080p at 120 FPS. Balanced Mode is 1440p at 60 FPS. Though the Xbox Series S will not have a Ray-tracing mode.
PlayStation 5’s Performance Mode will have a lower resolution than the Xbox Series X at 1584p, but will still run at 120 FPS. Balanced Mode is 2160p at 60 FPS, while Ray-tracing mode is 1800p at 60 FPS.
In terms of PC, this platform will have all of the above. However, how well DOOM Eternal will run depends on your PC hardware.
Will you save data carry over?
For Xbox players, as long as you sign in with the same Xbox Live account, your save data will carry over from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S. Sadly, it’s not all great news for PlayStation players.
Just like on Xbox, your online progression will carry over as long as you’re signed into your linked Bethesda.net account. However, according to the game’s FAQ, campaign data will not carry over from PS4 to PS5.
